Soldiers Veil
In August 2020, not long after the murder of George Floyd, filmmaker Gwendolyn Cates traveled with Executive Producers Meg Walker and Morey Bean from N.Y to Colorado to document the voices awakened by the pain, anguish and long - buried frustration with the past and simmering present genocide of Native Americans in its intersectionality with raging racism at work against Black, Indigenous People of Colour.
On arrival Morey and his Native American allies placed a black veil over a monument to a purported Civil War hero to bring awareness to Boulders complicity in the massacre of over 230 Arapaho and Cheyenne Native women, men, elders and children at South Creek at southeastern Colorado.
Confluence
CONFLUENCE is the short documentary created from this experience, filmed during the road trip that explored the solidarity and intersectionality of the Black Lives Matter and Native Rights movements in Ohio, Minneapolis, and Colorado, at locations including the George Floyd Memorial and the Sand Creek Massacre site.
